A Wizz Air flight from London made an emergency landing in Budapest after receiving a bomb threat, prompting a military escort and a full security response on the ground.
Hungarian Defence Forces spokesman Ruszin-Szendis announced the incident in a post on social media, confirming that the aircraft had requested permission to land at Budapest airport following the threat.
"Within minutes, a Hungarian Defence Forces Gripen fighter jet took to the skies and provided an escort for the passenger aircraft," he said.
After the escort was completed, the fighter jet returned to its base and police took charge of the incident, Ruszin-Szendis added.
Following the emergency landing, the aircraft taxied "to a designated stand" where security checks were carried out, Wizz Air said.
The airline confirmed it was "cooperating fully with the authorities," adding that the safety of passengers and crew "remains our highest priority."
