Ukraine: Melania Trump-brokered local ceasefire holds in Oleshky for second day

A local ceasefire around the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky in southern Ukraine has held through its first 30 hours with no reported breaches, Ukraine's human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said on Wednesday.

The truce was brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump, according to the White House. It is set to remain in place until November 1.

The ceasefire was agreed to allow residents of the frontline town to evacuate and receive humanitarian aid. Residents had been unable to leave amid what sources described as near-uninhabitable conditions.

Fighting in Oleshky stopped following the agreement, with Friday designated for aid deliveries and civilian evacuation.

However, some residents have expressed wariness about the ceasefire. According to reports, evacuation routes could potentially pass through Crimea and Russia, raising concerns among those seeking to leave.
