One person has been killed and at least four others injured in a shooting in Trappes, a suburb to the west of Paris. Police are treating the incident as a terrorist attack.

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu described the events as "very serious" and confirmed that the suspected attacker had been "apprehended and placed in police custody."

The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office (PNAT) announced it had taken over the investigation, describing the incident as appearing to be "murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise."

The Mayor of Trappes, Ali Rabeh, said that "an individual fired shots from his vehicle at several people he encountered" on Friday morning.

Reports in French media suggest the number of injured may be higher than initially stated, and that a 12-year-old child may be among the victims.
