A British father has been fined 3,000 euros (£2,500) after his two-year-old son fell to his death from the fourth floor of a five-star hotel in Cyprus.
Joshua Foster, 37, from Essex, admitted causing death through a reckless, rash or dangerous act. He was sentenced on Friday morning at Paphos District Court.
The boy fell nearly 40 feet (12.1 metres) from the King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas on 12 July, the first day of the family's holiday.
Foster had placed the boy on a window sill to show him the view of a waterpark, believing the window was closed. He then "lost control" of him, the court previously heard.
Foster, an auditor, had arrived in Cyprus in the early hours of that morning along with his wife, two children and in-laws. The family spent the day at the pool and taking part in various activities before preparing for dinner in the evening.
At around 18:00, Foster, his father-in-law and son were walking toward an elevator. His lawyer, Alexandros Alexandrou, told the court that Foster was in a "good mood" and was playing with his son at the time.
Speaking to reporters after sentencing, Foster said: "Thank you for the support. I'm looking forward to going home and being with my wife and daughter."
