Two helicopters collided in Nepal's Mount Everest region on Tuesday, killing at least one person and injuring two others.

Authorities confirmed that a 47-year-old Indian national was killed in the crash. A New Zealand national and a Nepali pilot were among the injured.

The collision occurred as both aircraft were attempting to land near Pheriche village, at an altitude of 4,200 metres (13,780 feet), just below Mount Everest base camp.

Footage posted online shows more than a dozen people running to safety as the helicopters crashed to the ground following the mid-air collision.

It is not clear how many people were on board the two aircraft at the time of the crash.

The Mount Everest region presents significant navigational challenges due to the absence of roads. Helicopters are regularly used in the area to evacuate trekkers and guides who have had to cut their journeys short due to sickness or exhaustion.

The incident comes days after a fire broke out at a hotel along the route to Mount Everest base camp. Heavy snowfall hampered efforts to extinguish the blaze. No deaths or injuries were reported in connection with that fire.
