As many as 476 foreigners from 29 countries are among 570 tourists reported missing in Nepal after a catastrophic flood devastated parts of the Himalayan nation, tourism officials said Thursday.

India has the highest number of missing nationals, with 177 reported missing, according to Nepal's tourism board. Ukraine follows with 53, while the United States has 63 citizens missing, Australia 34, Britain 33 and Canada 25.

Other missing nationals include 28 from Malaysia, 25 from Canada, nine from South Korea, eight from Germany, six each from Singapore and South Africa, and five each from Japan, New Zealand and Russia.

Malaysia's foreign ministry said 55 Malaysian nationals reported to its embassy in Kathmandu were uncontactable, although Nepal's tourism board put the number of missing Malaysians at 28.

Citizens of Belarus, Belgium, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Portugal, Spain and Sweden were also reported missing.

Separately, 260 foreigners were reported missing in Tibet's Gyirong county, according to China's state broadcaster CCTV. Nationality details for those missing in Tibet were not immediately available.

Authorities continue search and rescue operations as efforts intensify to locate those still unaccounted for following the disaster.
